Full Job Description

Salary: c£46,000 per annum pro rata.

Location: Homebased.

Contract: Fixed Term Contract for eternal applicants /Secondment for internal candidates for 9 months -35 hours per week.

A bit about the role

Reporting directly to the Head of Health & Safety, you will be effectively managing health & safety across Action for Children ensuring legal compliance and best practice with relevant legislation and standards, to assist in actively promoting and developing a positive health and safety culture.

How you’ll help to create brighter futures

  • Provide specialist advice, expertise, and support to Action for Children’s managers to support understanding and application of health & safety policy across the organisation – providing advice and guidance to all regional departments and assisting with finding bespoke solutions, where necessary.
  • Function as Action for Children lead advisors on all operational and building related health and safety topics to ensure Charity health and safety requirements are met and not compromised.
  • Carry out accident, incident and near miss investigations, making recommendations for improvements, changes etc. Ensuring that any RIDDOR notifications are made to the relevant enforcing authority in a timely manner.
  • Carry out risk assessments and provide recommendations considering what could go wrong and deciding on suitable control measures to eliminate, reduce or minimise the risks of loss, damage, or injury in the workplace.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits, as directed by the Head of Health & Safety to check policies and procedures are being properly maintained and effectively implemented.
  • Assist in development and delivery on health safety training topics and welfare, matters including, but not limited to, risk assessments, induction, manual handling, working at heights, stress, fire etc. Ensuring that appropriate training records are maintained.
  • Support the Head of Health & Safety to proactively assist with the development, implementation, monitoring and review of Health & Safety strategies, policies and procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Will carry out investigations and report on accidents/incidences and dangerous occurrences as necessary and ensure these are reported accurately to Head of Health & Safety for reporting purposes and any reports required monthly.
  • Will assist the Head of Health & Safety to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Directors, managers, employees, trade unions, contractors/sub-contractors, partners other stakeholders.
  • Will work alongside and in collaboration with the Property department to ensure that all buildings are safe and fit for purpose.

  • NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health & Safety Management (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) Graduate Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (I.O.S.H.).
  • A recognised fire safety qualification.
  • Evidence validating commitment to continuous professional development.
  • A degree or IOSH Diploma in health & safety or equivalent qualification.
  • Accredited Safety Auditor.
